I was sent the Battle Creek knee ice pack by my workman's comp script company. I've used it every day for two weeks. Since only the inside of my knee is painful, I leave one gel pack in the freezer while I position the other in the holder. This allows me to rotate cold on really bad-pain days. However, it may also affect its performance.
The good--
1) It stays cold. Like, for a couple hours of slowly-decreasing coldness. It's really wonderful in its coldness. This is without doubt its very best feature!
2) It chills my knee for quite a while after removing. This continues to keep the pain lessened, which is also wonderful.
3) The holder itself fits well. I position it a little off-set to better cover the area of pain, and it stays put. I haven't had to keep messing with the straps, trying to keep it in place or get it more comfortable or whatever. Put it on, maybe adjust it a bit, then off I go back to work. It's also decently comfortable when walking or sitting.
The bad--
1) The gel is too soft, too pliable. I realise they had to find the "happy medium" between stiff enough for its purpose yet not too stiff to inhibit motion. They didn't succeed. The gel tends to ooze down to the bottom portion fast. I have to keep squishing it back up, to cover more of my knee.
Now, perhaps it wasn't designed for someone on her feet all day at work, standing or (usually) walking. But it *was* designed to be flexible, which suggests to me the intent was for active use. "Active use" should include walking.
If not for the sinking, I'd say this is perfect. As it is, it's great at the cold, you just have to keep repositioning the gel.
