(More customer reviews)I had foot surgery on February 7, 2011 and was on the Weil Knee Walker the next day. I can't put any weight on my foot for 2 months. I'm 60 and have arthritis in my hands so crutches are difficult. The doctor recommended renting a knee walker ($35/mo for 8 weeks and not the same quality). My sister is an engineer and researched the available models online and sent me the Website for the Weil Knee Walker. Afer reading the reviews I decided to purchase it using American Express Miles. (As of February 2011, Amazon had the best price and free shipping.)
The knee walker is the best solution for getting around safely, comfortably and efficiently. It is stable, sturdy and easy to use - no assembly!! The knee pad is adjustable, wide and long and well-padded. The sturdy metal basket is ideal as a catchall for the necessities I carry from room to room - no multiple trips or asking my husband to help. Moving around the house is a snap. The turning radius is ideal for our home, and tight corners are easily maneuvered. It's well constructed and a little heavy for me (I need help getting it in and out of the car) but I see that as a safety feature and not a drawback. I recommend you get the knee walker prior to your surgery so you can practice using it in your home.
Altho I spend most of my day with the foot elevated to comply with doctor's instruction to insure I have a positive outcome post-surgery, I do go out with my husband and our two dogs for a daily walk. It's great exercise for my good leg and affords me the opportunity to get outside and enjoy the sun and fresh air. I highly recommend the Weil Knee Walker - it's a lifesaver - after foot surgery.
