(More customer reviews)I've had this unloader knee brace for almost two years after two surgeries on my right knee for torn and loose cartilage. I'm a 56 year old male who's still playing slowpitch softball and I work out regularly. This brace was prescribed by my orthopedic dr. and insurance paid for it. Apparently there are two types, off-the-shelf and taylor fitted unloader braces. Mine is off-the-shelf, which would be like the one offered here, but the brace representative did fit the brace to my knee, and it is adjustable.
The inside of my knee is the problem area, almost bone-on-bone, while the outside is still in fairly good shape, the hinge on the brace is on the inside, my problem area, with the theory being the brace will "unload the stress on the inside of my knee and transfer more to the good part, the outside. I gave the brace four stars instead of five, because it works well, but doesn't perform miracles. I'm on my feet all day at work, and if I don't wear my brace, I can really tell the difference at the end of the day. There are two straps that criss-cross on the back of the knee, and when I run a lot, the straps can give me blisters.
It's a pretty cool looking brace, and it's unobtrusive, and it's hard to notice if you're wearing it under slacks.
